Highgate Building
Highgate, London, United Kingdom
2015 – 2016
Located in the zone 3, the Highgate Building is one of 4 compounded Victorian buildings on the block overlooking Waterlow Park in London. In the midst of the well-known frontages along Highgate High Street and Bisham Gardens this property was originally built in 1890 as a 3 unit apartment building with a commercial space at the main level.
Extensively modifying the circulation to the original stairwell egress and finishes, this project uniquely links the building’s second and third levels, ordering the layout around the simple yet powerful spatial gestures of flexible open living spaces overlooking London from a closely controlled palette of white oiled oak flooring, white and bone seamless composite stone, white plaster and roman marble. This overhauling demarcates a labyrinth trajectory leading up to a retractable glass roof establishing an accessible clandestine timber floor roof terrace.
